Bio
Thomas Skou is a photographer and visual artist working across documentary, portraiture, lifestyle, and long-form commercial storytelling. With more than 18 years of professional practice, his work spans commissioned projects, extensive travel-based series, publishing, and exhibition contexts, often focusing on place, identity, and cultural history.
He was commissioned by a publisher, with funding from Carlsberg Brewery, to photograph all 222 historic brown bodegas of Copenhagen for a 700-page book “STAMSTEDER” that became a #1 bestseller and sold out two editions. The project received national television and press coverage and resulted in two exhibitions at the Copenhagen City Museum, which Skou personally curated.
His practice includes numerous international travel projects and an award-winning documentary series from a Texas rodeo, recognized for its intimate portrayal of contemporary American culture.
Skou has also worked as commissioned photographer for the Levi’s Skateboarding coffee-table book produced at the launch of the brand’s skate line, collaborating closely with the art director on the project’s visual language and execution.
Alongside his commissioned photography, he maintains an active art practice working with painting and painted photographic works, presented in solo gallery exhibitions. This parallel practice informs select collaborations and special commissions.
Based in Copenhagen, Thomas Skou works internationally across editorial, cultural, and brand-led projects.
